Welcome
Street ministry can look a lot like searching for diamonds. When mining for gems, at first, all the rocks look the same. Even diamonds in the rough look like regular stones. You wish every rock was a diamond. You wish every stone could be cleaned-up, processed and made valuable to everyone. You need to have contact with each rock and determine if time and effort will expose the brilliant facets to light. You wish everyone could sparkle, but only some are ready to shine.

We find plenty of diamonds in the rough at the Rescue Mission in Syracuse. These are men and women that are suffering and struggling to find healing. Struggling to find the light. You can recognize them though because they respond to support and encouragement, like a traveler coming upon an oasis in the dessert. They drink in the living water. They fill-up to take some with them as they continue on their difficult journey. We see the words in John chapter 7 come to life, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

What to do with our friends that don’t respond? Because we know they can one day be diamonds too (“Whoever believes in me…”), we continue to show them the water and light of life. We are obedient to our calling to show them love, kindness and patience. We pray they will eventually drink. In the meantime, we celebrate our friends who, in spite of their circumstances, have welcomed the living water that flows within them.

What Happened This Month
in Syracuse, NYThe first weekend of every month continues to be a big weekend for us in Syracuse. The first Friday, we get together for Refuge Worship at various sites around Syracuse. The next day is filled with mission. We provide pop-up markets delivering much needed clothing, health and wellness products, conversation, friendship and prayer. Check out the pictures below to sample what went on this month at our Hand-to-Hand missions.

As is true in life, the most important message in these pictures can’t be seen. It is the important partnerships that enable everything that goes on at our worship and mission sites. This is the Body of Christ in action.

This is one of the important verses Beautiful Mess Ministries stands on. What does it mean for “each member to belong to all the others.”? We think it speaks to the importance of living in Christ-centered community and recognizing how our action or inaction is felt by others.
